ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to evaluate the mechanical strength of birch wood to determine the suitability for constructions, in addition to the finishing elements. In specialized laboratories were checked in three repetitions destructive forces and displacements on air-dry samples of standard shapes and dimensions. Based on measurements were calculated ad hoc strengths of that wood for: bending, which reached 110.47 MPa; shearing across the fibers, which was equal 7.00 MPa; stretching across the fibers, which was specified at 3.92 MPa; stretching along the fibers, whose value was equal 96.27 MPa, and compressing, which reached 60.97 MPa. Such favorable mechanical characteristics allowed to formulate the conclusion for the usefulness of this species on any construction elements and wooden connectors.
